Whether as an educator, a community member, a youth group leader, a leader in the outdoor community, a father, a husband, and a son, Don Hanson embodied a gracious generosity to all whom he came into contact with. Don was described by those who knew him as a “force of nature” and his ability to open up doors of new discoveries to all whom he came in contact with has touched the lives of thousands. Don died tragically in March of 2013 doing what he loved most…helping others on their journey by building a clear route through the woods. This scholarship, in his honor, will be awarded to the recipient who embodies the kind of positive and enthusiastic service to others that Don would be proud of.

The Don Hanson Memorial Scholarship will be awarded in June of this year to a graduating 2015 senior at Cascade High School in Leavenworth, Washington. The support for this scholarship came from the generous donations made in Don’s honor after his death.

Applicants must be currently enrolled or planning to attend a college or university, craft, art, or trade school in the academic year immediately following graduation. The amount of $10,000 will be paid over 4 years or 2 years depending upon school/institution.

We are very excited about this scholarship! It is wonderful to support a young person as they further their education. Don would love to be part of it.
