A Loving Farewell to Peg Stark
July 29th, 2016 in Yesterday
The mountain community lost one of its dearest members June 1, 2016, Peg Stark passed away at the age of 99. She was beloved by all for her deep love of nature and her beautiful writing. Her loving personality set the tone for Scottish Lakes and her spirit is intertwined with the entire high camp experience. You can’t visit Scottish Lakes without sinking into the natural beauty and serenity of the back country and the simple, exquisite life it offers. This is the message Peg Stark left with us.
It was such a pleasure to meet and spend time with Peg. Discussions with her immediately went deeper than just your simple day to day banter. She was present with you in the moment, thoughtful and focused. Peg once said how much she loved to get up in the middle of the night to use the outhouse! This is something many of us dread. She told me she enjoyed being outdoors at night and getting a different perspective on the world. She loved the dark and the stars and this was her opportunity to experience that.
As Joel Connelly from SeattlePI.com said:
If you really want to celebrate her life, go to a high point somewhere in the eastern Alpine Lakes Wilderness, extend your arms, and reflect on the beauty of the place and the richness of a well-lived life.
So I mark this beautiful life, think of her, remember her and allow her to influence how I walk in this world.
