Well why would this old fashioned iron be sitting next to the wood burning stove in the lodge at High Camp since 1994 when we bought it …. and probably for many years before that? I don’t think it was for the laundry!
Nope, it was used and still is used to wax skis. This is an art. You set the iron on the hot wood burning stove so it heats up. It should not get too hot or it will burn the wax. You drop the wax on the flat bottom of the iron so it melts then apply it to your ski with a circular motion. You want the hot wax to soak into the ski to make it fly down the mountain! This old fashioned iron is the perfect tool to tune your skis in a back country resort with no electricity. Works great!
