Dreams of Backpacking

This is the time of year when I start to dream about where I will backpack this coming hiking season. One of my favorite books is “Classic Hikes of North America” by Peter Potterfield. I am dreaming of the Long Range Traverse in Gros Morne National Park this year, which is Newfoundland, Canada. I have to be honest I probably won’t get to go this year…but it is definitely in my future. Part of making exciting things happen is believing in them in the first place! Little Beaver / Big Beaver in North Cascades is a awesome backpack we learned about from this book.

Other dream backpacks of past summers took us to the John Muir Trail, the Wonderland Trail and through the Wind Rivers from north to south.

A dream backpack from the past came from another Peter Potterfield book, “Classic Hikes of the World”. We did Buckskin Gulch down to the Colorado River from that book.

Yes, this is the time of year when you thumb through your backpacking guides on a rainy spring day and plan your backpacking vacations. A few other guides are:

  • “Trekking Washington” by Mike Woodmansee
  • “Backpacking Washington” by Craig Romano

So enjoy your dreams and live them out. There are many informative guide books out there. Then come and tell us about them during your next visit to Scottish Lakes!
